Good food, friendly atmosphere, but expect $20+ meal

Absolutely the best BBQ in Lake Charles, probably the best in Louisiana. Reminds me of Central Texas BBQ, which is the gold standard 😀. The employee's are helpful and polite. I also really like the soft drink fountain, it is so good to see something other than Coke and Pepsi. My new favorite restaurant in Lake Charles.

Delicious food & wonderful staff... I asked the guy server to fix me up with what he likes to eat...he sold me a brisket sandwich with a side of pulled pork & a side of Mac n cheese...I rebuilt a sandwich at my table & added bbq sauce, pickled onions onions & a pickle on top-my “Kenny’s Special” was absolutely delicious—next time I will request an extra bun for the leftovers =Kenny mentioned a “riblette sandwich” which I can’t wait to try in the next few days—delicious food, friendly staff, great location...be proud-you are here to stay if I have anything to do about it

By far the best bbq brisket and more possible. I’ve been to the #1 rated bbq restaurant in Texas and at least 100 of the others. This place is just as good but one state to the East. Focus on quality not quantity!

Very excited about this place and can't wait to go back. It was great to see the owner preparing meal and making sure everything was perfect. The brisket was mouth watering, but the Smoked Mac was a little too smokey for my taste buds. Food is priced a little higher than most places in town, but worth it in my opinion.

I typically do not enjoy barbeque, but I love this place. Paul puts out great food in a wonderful atmosphere. The outdoor area is a great place to hang out and hear some great music.

From the great live band to the curtious employees and awesome bbq.....this clean place rocks....thumbs up...

Best barbecue in Lake Charles.Brisket and ribs are the best.Avoid the sausage. Smokehouse atmosphere w indoor seating and outdoor under lighted oak trees.

By far the best BBQ in the Lake Area. Brisket, ribs, and turkey are top notch. If you want good BBQ in a great atmosphere with quick and friendly service this is the place to go.

I’m from Texas so I know good BBQ and this place is amazing!! The atmosphere, employees, portions and cleanliness are far from average. Jan is the friendliest and most welcoming employee (someone should give her a raise) and Paul, the owner, is very charismatic and really cares about his business. Will always recommend to anyone!

The ribs are So So Good, and so Tender!!! Great Guy!!!! Paul tried to change where I hit one star and my phone rang in the middle of the posting, But please know it is definitely a 5 Star, please except my apologies, Everyone please go and try Paul's Ribs my husband loves the brisket.

Oh, my word! Paul’s Rib Shack has some of the best, if not THE best, brisket I’ve ever had. I had the brisket sandwich, with coleslaw, and their cheesy mac. Let me tell you, it was amazing! The atmosphere was fantastic, you can side inside or enjoy eating under huge, beautiful oak trees outside! Definitely go check them out! You won’t regret it!

Best brisket and sausage I've ever had... bar none. I'm from North Central Texas. I know and am pretty picky about barbecue. I've eaten at many of the best in Texas (Black's, Hutchin's, Mueller's etc.); and they're really good. But Paul's is GREAT. But don't take my word for it. Go get some brisket from Paul's Rib Shack.

In the way of social distancing, it was very good. Our outside waiters were humorous and helpful. They were quick and food readiness was fast. The pulled pork was good with a light to medium smoke flavor, the sauce was good, and the buns were notably buttered and crisp. The smoke mac was great, the city marque cheaux with chorizo was flavorful, the slaw had a good cut - but a little dry.Overall great experience, nice atmosphere too

Paul's Rib Shack is excellent. The service was fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is also great. My wife and I went for the first time tonight to see a friend perform live music. I had the smoked catfish and mac and cheese (it's Lent). We plan on going back and trying their other items. The back patio features an open area with lights in live oak trees. I highly recommend Paul's.

Recently opened. Fantastic Barbeque. Try the Brisket Sandwich! Open on Fridays and Saturdays for now.

Food wasn't bad. Wasn't GREAT either. They are just starting out so I'm sure they have some growing pains to workout. The employees were all very friendly. I'd like to see a little bigger menu selection as well. Wife and I felt it was a tad pricey as well. $30 for just two of us and all we had was chopped sandwiches with a side and a fountain drink. I'll try them back in a few months or so.

This is for everyone who lives in Texas like me:It's better than Rudy's. It's better than Doziers. It's most definitely Texas style. It's amazing. The BBQ sauce tastes like it has brown sugar. The seasoning (while lite...) is amazing. My entire family loved it. For all you cowboys coming to visit, stop by for your BBQ fix. You won't regret it. Signed, The pickiest eater in the world.

You don’t think of Southwest Louisiana as a place you’d find quality BBQ, and yet Paul Pettefer is here, cranking out delicious Texas-style BBQ. Brisket and ribs are both as good as anything you’d find in Louisiana, and would absolutely hold their own in Texas. The five beans were savory with a unique flavor. If you’re in the SW Louisiana area, a trip to Paul’s Rib Shack would be a stop worth making

Paul greeted us at the door, helped us make our orders, and even passed by our table to make sure everything was good. My plate was already cleared by that point. Brisket sandwich and smoked Mac n cheese get a 9 out of 10 for me.

These guys do it right. Seriously. We rolled in there and got our food, and before we left ordered some to go for dinner. This is the restaurant where passion meets expertise. IF you’re hungry for BBQ - do yourself a fave. Go to Paul’s.

Lake Charles newest barbecue restaurant. Where the owner will meet you at the door and they have the coolest soda fountain. Let's not forget how great the barbecue is!

Love the new building that offers both inside seating and a really nice outdoor area. Friendly helpful staff serving Paul's competition quality barbecue. I had the brisket and pulled pork and both were absolute perfection.

The wife and I had the best BBQ we've had in lake Charles. Turkey breast was awesome. And staff and owner was super nice

Really good BBQ. I think the best in town. I really liked the ribs and I'm usually a brisket guy.A touch pricey and no potato salad or coleslaw.I'll be back.

In town for a few days, and heard about this place from Google. Trip Advisor said it was on of the best food places in Lake Charles. THEY WERE NOT KIDDING!! EVERYTHING was excellent. EVERYTHING Mac and Cheese, Pulled pork, bread pudding with BlackBerry rum sauce, OMG THE RIBS! AMAAAAZING!!!

They told me that one rib would be enough... I didn't believe them, and I was wrong! WOW! I FEEL LIKE I LIVE IN TEXAS, because they say everything is bigger in TX, well this is Lake Charles and this bad boy can feed an army!
